Walk/Hike
Almost no matter where you live in Kansas, there is some form of walking path or trail that can add a whole new sense of enjoyment to a community's active lifestyle. Below are a few things you can do to encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to get out and get moving!
- Locate the trails/paths.
- Figure out the starting and finishing points as well as all safety and use restrictions on the trails in your community.
- A great place to begin your seach for this information is your city's or county's Parks and Recreation office.
- Recruit local Parks and Recreation personnel.
- Recruiting local Parks and Recreation personnel to host a walk/hike is a terrific way to teach the greatest number of people at one time about the joys of hiking and everything they need to know about hiking a particular trail.
- Walking tours of historical sites.
- Add to the excitement of walking and hiking by touring and learning about a historical site. This will give the walk a "purpose" (besides better health!) and may tempt the reluctant.
- Recruit a nutrition professional.
- Invite a nutrition professional to give a talk about proper food and water intake while hiking.
